Undergo training

Following recent mass shootings, the U.S. surgeon general has declared gun violence a public health crisis. According to the Pew Research Center, approximately 45% of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents own a gun compared to 20% of Democrats. The primary reason gun owners cite for having a firearm is personal protection, with 72% indicating it as a major motivation.

FrontPageDetectives.com has learned that Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey has swiftly moved to enact a new law aimed at addressing privately manufactured, untraceable “ghost guns.” The legislation also makes bump stocks and trigger cranks illegal and mandates that individuals applying for a license must first undergo training.

Gun safety law
“This gun safety law bans ghost guns, strengthens the Extreme Risk Protection Order statute to keep guns out of the hands of people who are a danger to themselves or others, and invests in violence prevention programs,” Healey said.
It is important
“It is important that these measures go into effect without delay,” Healey added.
Red flag
The law, approved in July, also expands the state’s “red flag” law.
Gun access
The “red flag” law allows police and health officials to alert the courts about individuals who may pose a danger due to gun access.
Suspend the law
Gun rights activists had aimed to gather signatures to suspend the law before it took effect.
Implement it immediately
However, Healey’s decision to implement it immediately has prevented any delay.
Certain locations
The law was created in response to the Supreme Court’s 2022 Bruen decision and includes provisions that restrict gun carrying in certain locations.
Assault weapons
The law aims to enhance safety training requirements, and also broaden the definition of “assault weapons.”
Gun advocates
Gun advocates have filed a federal lawsuit claiming the law is unconstitutional and imposes excessive restrictions on firearm ownership.
