Hybrid sheep breeds
FrontPageDetectives.com has learned that 81-year-old Arthur “Jack” Schubarth is set to be sentenced for unlawfully developing hybrid sheep breeds intended for trophy hunting. “Jack did something no one else could, or has ever done,” a sentencing memorandum stated.
Born of science
“On a ranch, in a barn in Montana, he created Montana Mountain King. MMK is an extraordinary animal, born of science, and from a man who, if he could re-write history, would have left the challenge of cloning a Marco Polo only to the imagination of Michael Crichton,” the memo added.
Wildlife trafficking laws
Schubarth is not expected to receive prison time and is requesting one year of probation for violating federal wildlife trafficking laws under the Lacey Act.
Hunting purposes
He pleaded guilty in March to conspiracy charges related to cloning the endangered Marco Polo sheep, which he named Montana Mountain King, and selling hybrid sheep for hunting purposes.
Expressed regret
Schubarth’s business involved breeding alternative livestock for private hunting preserves, and he expressed regret for his actions.
Legal boundaries
Schubarth acknowleded that his passion led him to ignore legal boundaries.
Sheep industry
“I got my normal mindset clouded by my enthusiasm and looked for any grey area in the law to make the best sheep I could for this sheep industry,” Schubarth wrote.
We are now
“My family has never been broke, but we are now,” Schubarth added.
